February Montaine was a DIY artist from the Midlands, England who was active between the period of 1985 and 1991.
We at the label came across these recordings through Sam Potter (previously of Late of The Pier) who has been working with February’s step-daughter Suzy, to document Montaine's unique take on the world.
What was left by February varies from well archived stems to scraps of ideas recorded straight to tape. In the last year we have been carefully digitising these, and when possible mixing these most cherished possessions he left behind.
His work paints the picture of a reclusive and sensitive artist using music as a lens to observe and interact with the world around him. The music is functional, using a broad palette of styles to enhance and change his moods.
"Sidney" is the first track from the upcoming album "As Late As The Light That Hides It: Recordings from February Montaine 1985 - 1991"
This full album will be released February 28th on Fantasy Fiction Records.
